There are many times when I have questioned what makes the beauty industry tick. There are so many times where I have seen trends that make me scratch my head. With bright colored eyeshadows to sparkle eyeliner and black lipsticks, I can not help but wonder— what makes the beauty industry go-round?
As a fair-skinned girl with freckles, I tend to stick to neutrals. Growing up going to Catholic schools, we had to wear uniforms and little to no makeup. This was the beginning of my love for beauty and fashion. Because people ALWAYS want what they can not have. When I went to college I started exploring more trendy fashion, street style, and different makeup. You can tell I went through a stage by the amount of eyeliner I used to wear (sorry mom). From our clothes, tattoos, and even the cars we drive— everyone is always looking for a way to show the world who they are.
Subscription boxes are the perfect way to try new makeup if you do not want to spend the money on full-priced products. As someone who can easily spend a few hundred dollars at Sephora or Ulta, subscription beauty boxes like Glossy Box have been a god-send!

What Is Glossy Box?
Glossy Box is a beauty subscription service that allows you to receive monthly beauty products. Every month you are going to receive five hand-picked items from the creators of Glossy Box. You will only pay $21 when you sign up for one month!
What We Like About Glossy Box
Glossy Box is one of the only subscription beauty boxes that I have received that include hair products. Most other boxes only send you makeup and skincare products, which in my opinion, is a mistake. Although I LOVE makeup, I am always trying to find the best ways to keep my hair clean and healthy.
This month I received both a dry shampoo and a detangling brush. Who doesn’t love a new dry shampoo?! The dry shampoo has become one of my new favorite products for my hair and I intend to buy a full-size version when the min size runs out! If you like variety in your boxes, Glossy Box is a great choice.
What We Don’t Like About Glossy Box
After receiving a different box this month with full-size products I was disappointed to see my products were all travel size. The thought “ugh” comes to mind when I think of only getting travel-sized products. Although the smaller products come in handy, I wish more of the items in my box would have been larger. Two of the products were full-size, but given the larger products were the brush and the lip balm it didn’t make much of a difference to me.
Another thing I did not care for is the fact that you will not be able to pick out your items. As someone who likes to be in control of some things, especially when it comes to items I will be wearing, I didn’t love this. I found this to lead to getting a lot of products I did not like.
What’s New With Glossy Box?
In July of 2020, Glossy box came out with their very own skincare line (thank god). Glossy Box was the first subscription box service to come out with their very own line of products. Let me just say, this stuff is magic! the first of any subscription box to do so. The line includes 10 different products ranging from moisturizers and cleansers to exfoliators and eye creams, plus so much more!
The best part? Their products are vegan and cruelty-free, were made with at least 87% natural ingredients, and most of the packaging was made of 100% recyclable sugarcane. Not only that, but Glossy box claimed to have used 100% renewable electricity and created zero landfill waste. How awesome is that?
How Much Does It Cost?
When you go to sign up for Glossybox you are asked how many months you want to pay for upfront. I did not know if I would like Glossybox, so I only paid for one month at a time. However, the more boxes you sign up for in advance, the better deal you get.
If you sign up for one month, you will pay $21, but if you want to pay for six months upfront you will only pay $18 every month. If you pay for a full year in advance ($210 annually), you will only be paying a little more than $17 each month. Which, in my opinion, is a major steal considering how many awesome products you are getting! You can choose to pay for one month, three months, six months, or 12 months when you sign up!
How Do You Sign Up?
Signing up is so easy! All you have to do when signing up is pick how many boxes you want to pay for in advance, put in your information, and wait for your order to arrive at your door. Who doesn’t love easy signup?!
Brands Glossy Box Uses
One of my favorite aspects of Glossy Box is they are upfront about the brands they are going to use in their boxes. They even have an entire page devoted to showing you those brands. There are so many brands they work with, which makes the experience even better in my opinion. If you love versatility, you will LOVE Glossy Box. Is It Worth It?
I get asked this question a lot when I am reviewing products and subscription box services. My response? As my grandfather used to say, “is the sky blue and the grass green?” Unless you can’t see those colors, the answer is YES! Subscription boxes are generally worth it because you are definitely getting the most bang for your buck.
With Glossy box you are receiving products you will actually use. Instead of getting a new facial cleanser or eyeshadow, you can expect to receive items such as hairbrushes and dry shampoo. No one can ever have enough dry shampoo (unless you are like me and you keep six in your house “just in case”).
Overall, I love Glossy Box. Although they do not send you full-size products like other brands, you are almost guaranteed to get products you’ll actually like. Being able to see the brands they use and having to only pay a little over $20 makes it all worth it!
