Samsung vs Mobvoi Smartwatches

Samsung's smartwatches have always been premium level and Mobvoi Ticwatches have always been more entry level, but that is changing.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 vs Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro 3

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 finally meets its match when it faces up to the Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro 3.

Mobvoi’s Ticwatch Pro 3 is a fantastic smartwatch that really blazes the trail for the Wear OS system. In January 2020, I would still be complaining about how the Wear OS is a terrible laggard.

Not right now, though. The Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro 3 comes with a great hardware spec with its Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 and 1GB of RAM. This means everything is fast and it’s most notable when you activate Google Assistant. Generally, lesser smartwatches take a few seconds before the voice assistant is ready to accept your input. On the Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro 3, it’s instantaneous.

The same can be said for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. It’s really quick, but when it comes to Samsung’s watches, they have always been pretty good that way.

The Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro 3 does offer a bunch of pretty good health metrics including noise monitoring, SpO2 and stress monitoring. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 can monitor SpO2… if it’s available in your country (it isn’t in Canada).

Battery life is superior on the Ticwatch Pro 3. I have never seen a Wear OS smartwatch that can last multiple days without needing a charge. I think the combination of the dual screen (one low power LCD and one full colour LED) really make the Ticwatch Pro 3 a really efficient smartwatch,

For some reason, though, I keep coming back to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. Maybe it’s because I think it’s just better looking.

Samsung Galaxy Watch3 vs Ticwatch Pro

The Samsung Galaxy Watch3 is a pretty fantastic smartwatch but the same can’t be said about the Ticwatch Pro in 2021.

I’m reviewing the original Ticwatch Pro with its Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor and 512MB of RAM. While it might have been OK when this smartwatch was first released, it has now become quite the laggard.

The upside to the Ticwatch Pro is that you get access to the Wear OS system with its accurate and really good speech to text system and a fantastic voice assistant called Google Assistant. It’s also a lot more affordable than the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3.

However, in all non-software based judgements, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 wins. It looks better both externally and has great watch faces and a very pretty interface.

Samsung Galaxy Watch3 vs Ticwatch C2

The Ticwatch C2 is one of my favourite small watches. It’s smaller than all other Mobvoi smartwatches and also smaller than the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3.

Small smartwatches sometimes can suffer from horrible battery life but luckily this doesn’t apply to the Ticwatch C2, which can last at least a day. The same can’t be said for the Fossil Sport Smartwatch which is smaller but its battery life is atrocious.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is a superior smartwatch with a price tag to match. It’s one of the most expensive smartwatches out there barring outliers from the sport smartwatch category.

In return, you get a great smartwatch that looks good on the outside, has a very nice rotating bezel and looks great all around. I think this is the main appeal of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 along with its great integration with Samsung smartphones.

On the other hand, the Ticwatch C2 is a cheery, compact and effective smartwatch thanks to its great software. Backed by Google’s Wear OS, you get many conveniences that exist on Samsung’s Tizen OS, but they’re just not as good as compared to Google.

Samsung Galaxy Watch3 vs Ticwatch S2

Mobvoi’s Ticwatch S2 is a great smartwatch for entry level users who need a smartwatch that’s just a bit more rugged than the Ticwatch E2.

Personally, I don’t know how rugged the Ticwatch S2 is other than its MIL-STD-810G rating, but I wouldn’t expect it to survive anything too extreme. Just by judging the watch by its cover, which is made of plastic, I wouldn’t want to take it to an activity where there might be crashes or heavy impacts.

As a watch for daily use, it’s really good. It helps that it’s backed by the Wear OS which means you get Google Assistant and Google Maps. Whereas when it comes to Samsung’s Tizen OS, you unfortunately have to settle with lesser expectations when it comes to voice assistant, app store and other aspects of software.

That said, out of the box, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is much more usable than the Ticwatch S2, especially so because it’s integration with Samsung phones is so much more comprehensive and it also has hardware that looks better and performs with no lag.

Samsung Galaxy Watch3 vs Ticwatch E2

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is an amazing smartwatch. I really like it because of its fantastic design with its thin rotating bezel and beautifully designed watch faces.

I enjoy wearing the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 every day because it’s just such a delight to look at.

But if I cared about software over looks, I might just consider the Ticwatch E2, particularly if I really wanted to save some money.

The Ticwatch E2 is an entry level smartwatch and it sometimes shows that very obviously. It definitely doesn’t look as good as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and sometimes it can be very slow.

But it runs on Google’s Wear OS platform which means you get access to some of the best software out there. Whereas Samsung’s Tizen OS can sometimes be a bit lacklustre in terms of its capabilities, particularly in third-party apps and speech to text abilities.

Ticwatch E2 vs Samsung Galaxy Watch/ Active 2

ticwatch e2 vs samsung galaxy watch/active 2

While these two smartwatches look more or less the same, they are vastly different in their intended market.

The Ticwatch E2 is a fantastic watch for entry level consumers who wants simple functionality from a smartwatch. You can’t make calls with the Ticwatch E2, which you can on the Samsung Galaxy Watch/ Active 2.

At the same time, getting the Ticwatch E2 means you want a Wear OS smartwatch rather than Samsung’s Tizen OS. These two different operating systems bring different benefits, with the Wear OS being superior in its software prowess. No surprise here. It’s Google’s Wear OS vs Samsung’s Tizen OS.

Unfortunately, the Ticwatch E2 is becoming very dated in its hardware with its five year old Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100. It can get quite laggy and become a massive battery drain if you run something really power intensive. Even an update running in the background can severely slow down the Ticwatch E2.

This doesn’t happen with the Samsung Galaxy Watch/ Active 2, but you do pay a premium for Samsung’s hardware and great design.

Samsung Galaxy Watch/Active 2 vs Ticwatch Pro

For a general purpose user, Samsung’s line of smartwatches are really good. I like them because they offer a great design and also great integration with Samsung phones.

The Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro is another story. It has Mobvoi’s dual screen technology and it’s great but somehow, I don’t find that it has very good battery life.

But the Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro really makes up for it with its superior software suite thanks to Google’s Wear OS. That means you get to use fantastic apps like Google Maps and Google Assistant.

But the Ticwatch Pro has a problem in that its hardware is really outdated. It’s very slow sometimes and you can be driven to frustration if you ever hit one of those peak periods where it just has no more capacity to be concerned with you.

Between the two brands, if you want to do it right the first time, buy the new Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro 3 (not the original Ticwatch Pro) or the Samsung Galaxy Active 2.
